David Napier of TIMORATUS Discusses Movies, Music, and More

If you're looking for safe and typical metal, you've come to the wrong place. TIMORATUS is anything but your carbon-copy heavy music or hardcore band. Singer and founding member David Napier is self-described as being a bit ADHD. It stands out in TIMORATUS's unconventional blend of metal, electronic music, indie rock, and comedy.

You never know what to expect when tuning in for a new tune from TIMORATUS. One album is doom metal, another grindcore, the next song could be one of the tracks off of their latest album, "My Life in a Mediocre Metal Band." In that case, you'll no doubt be pleasantly surprised with an unorthodox mix of genres or a humorous skit that pokes fun at the music industry and themselves.

I sat down to speak with David Napier the day after their new album, "My Life in a Mediocre Metal Band," hit streaming services worldwide. Our conversation ended up all over the place. You might have guessed that a possibility from two individuals who can't seem to concentrate on one thing at a time.

David and I chat about the new album, faith, musical influences, horror movies, his wife - Courtney - who fronts TIMORATUS, and a bunch of other stuff. You know - movies, music, and more. Brace yourselves and get ready for a sensory overload.

You can check out more from TIMORATUS on their Facebook page.

Grandpa Loves Rhinos Discusses Movies, Music, and More (Interview)

Grandpa Loves Rhinos might just be the best pop punk band you've never heard. Made up of brothers Paul and Seth Hyde, the two use their musical outlet to stay connected to each other and the music they grew up listening to. With incredibly personal lyrics and driving melodies, this is a group you're going to want to get to know if late '90s and early 2000's infectious punk anthems are your thing.

I sat down with brothers Paul and Seth Hyde and we discussed... what else... movies, music, and more. As I've found to be the case, there's a lot more to these two guys than just their love for a good tune. We talked about all kinds of crazy and interesting topics. From their careers in the military as a fighter pilot and soon-to-be member of Space Force to being foster parents, it's all here. Don't worry, we also talk about Grandpa Loves Rhino's new single, "Fostering Patience With Patients." You'll get the lowdown on their upcoming 8-song release as well.

Check out the interview to get up to speed on your new favorite rock band.

You can keep up with Grandpa Loves Rhinos right here.

Mantric Pushes the Envelope of Rock and Metal with False Negative (Listen)

Just playing a little catch-up here and was reminded of Mantric's "False Negative" thanks to the latest episode of the Labeled podcast which concentrated on Scandinavian bands. Imagine this... and it's going to be hard... Sunny Day Real Estate, Fold Zandura, and Mortal joined forces with Extol to create some truly unique and progressive music that can't really be compared to anything that's come before. That's what you get with Mantric's "False Negative."

Vocally, I hear leanings toward Jeremy Enigk of Sunny Day Real Estate and Jyro Xhan from Mortal and Fold Zandura. The harsher vocals are reminiscent of some of what we hear from Extol.

How a band can sound equal parts influenced by The Beach Boys, Oasis, Blur, aaaand Norwegian death metal bands is beyond me, but Mantric prove it's more than possible as they deliver 10 outstanding tracks that will appeal to those of us looking for something a bit different when it comes to our heavy music. There are heavy riffs, but they are accompanied by melodic sections and keyboards that change where you think this group of talented players might be going at any given moment. You can purchase Mantric's "False Negative" right here.

Official Press Release:

Mantric is a rock band out of Oslo, Norway. The core members, Tor, Ole, and John started creating music together in the 90s. They began their career in the band Lengsel at the height of the black metal era, then played in the millennium death metal band Extol, until finally regrouping as Mantric in 2007—a rock oriented group with a progressive metal edge. Mantric released their debut album Descent in 2010, followed by Sin in 2015. Their next project, False Negative, expands the metal genre while maintaining its grit, incorporating synths and cleaner vocals with aggressive instrumentation.

Eradication Agenda Exposed in Batman Beyond #45 (Preview)

There's nothing better than an old-fashioned arch-nemesis with a diabolical scheme to destroy the world. That's exactly what we're getting in the first three opening pages of Batman Beyond #45. What could be better than a combination of future Batman, grown-up Damian Wayne, and an aging-but-still-mad Ra's al Ghul? Nothing much I can think of. Check out a sneak preview of the issue after the jump.

Batman Beyond #45 gives us a glimpse of what to expect in the rest of the issue. An ecological terrorist plot that only the Demon and writer Dan Jurgens could cook up. Mix in some excellent art from Paul Pelletier and you have the makings of strong book.

Damian Wayne and Batman Beyond are going to have to join forces in order to stop Mr. Zero and his radical faction from turning Gotham City into an ice-covered hellscape. Damian will have to put his disrespect for the “pretender” that is Batman Beyond aside if they’re going to stop this mutual foe-and even then Mr. Zero’s power and influence might prove too much for this pair!

Batman Beyond #45 is for ages ranging 12 and up. The issue is 24 pages and retails for $3.99. It's available now wherever you get your physical or digital comic books.

Daisy and Coulson Weather a Time Storm in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Promo (Trailer)

I gave up on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. after two attempts to watch it when it first came out. The show just didn't grab me and I felt like they wasted a lot of potential to showcase not only the S.H.I.E.L.D agents, but major opportunities to showcase Marvel's B and C team superheroes we don't get to see in the movies. Check out the spot for episode 9 of final season 7 after the jump.

Basically, this trailer for episode 9, "As I Have Always Been," didn't do much for me. I'm not really the one to judge this promo, though. I couldn't even begin to tell you what's going on in the show.

A time storm ravages the Zephyr, propelling it toward destruction while simultaneously forcing Daisy and Coulson to relive their failed attempts to save the team over and over, until they find a solution or are swallowed by the storm. Making it to their next destination will take trust, courage and sacrifice from everyone on board, but it will all come down to having enough time..

Paws Unite for Cats and Dogs 3 (Trailer)

I don't really know who asked for this or how it got made, but Warner Bros. seems to think there's an audience for Cats & Dogs 3. I actually enjoyed the original film, but never saw the sequel because I was warned not to. The third entry in this franchise is going straight-to-DVD and that really shouldn't surprise anyone since part two was considered a box office bomb. Check out the trailer after the jump and make your own decision.

Honestly, I'm all for a little low-brow silliness and this looks like something kids ages 5 to 10 will enjoy. I'll no doubt end up seeing it someday. Even if the trailer doesn't grab your fancy, I'm sure you'll enjoy this punny synopsis of Cats & Dogs 3.

Gwen the Cat (Melissa Rauch) and Roger the Dog (Max Greenfield) are secret agents who covertly protect and save the world without humans ever finding out. Their partnership is due to the Great Truce, which has stopped dog and cat hostility for a decade. But the long-standing peace is threatened when a supervillain parrot (George Lopez) discovers a way to manipulate wireless frequencies that only dogs and cats can hear! Will the heroes be able to stop the foul fowl, or will he cause a cat-a-strophe between the species?

Cats & Dogs 3 will hit homes sometime in September.

Lifelong Encourages You to Keep Your Head "Above the Waves" (Listen)

There's no arguing that Lifelong wears their heart on their sleeve. The band has no problem unloading their passions, soul, personal struggles through the bulk of the 13 tracks found on their new Solid State Records release, "Above the Waves." Both Joel Piper and Trevor Vickers peel back any sort of protective gear someone would put around their emotions to safeguard them to let the listener know that there is hope out there and others just like you struggling with their faith and just life in general.

Every track found here sounds organic and raw in a way that punk and hardcore folks will appreciate. Fans of Beloved, BoySetsFire, and other bands of that nature will love the blend of harsh riffing and melodic guitar lines Lifelong unleashes on our ears. You can purchase Lifelong's "Above the Waves" right here.

Official Press Release:

Lifelong is a melodic hardcore band from San Diego, CA. Members Trevor Vickers and Joel Piper first met playing in Confide, a band that ruled the metalcore scene in the mid-2000s. Years after disbanding, Vickers and Piper reunited serendipitously in San Diego. The chance encounter ignited what would become Lifelong—a pop-meets-punk hardcore outfit inspired by the duo’s musical roots. After releasing the EP Revive The Masses in 2018, Lifelong signed with Solid State Records and began working on their debut full-length, Above The Waves.

Above The Waves is an album of celebration. The songs partner struggle with triumph, injecting positivity into a music scene desperate for it. Harnessing the energy of Comeback Kid with the motive of Taking Back Sunday, Lifelong’s reputation is full of hope and enthusiasm. Their heavy and happy instrumentation carries more melody and pop than their previous metal group, introducing fans to a sound inspired by the SoCal punk scene. Not only did the duo write and record the entire record themselves, they produced and engineered it. By combining their strengths and learning new tricks, Vickers and Piper built a band with the buoyancy to rise above the rest.

2020 iWolverine gives us something extremely awesome and exciting - a Terminator-style version of Weapon X. If you don't believe me, just check out the four page preview after the jump.

Trevor Vickers of Lifelong Discusses Movies, Music, and More

Trevor Vickers might be a bit uncomfortable if someone referred to Lifelong as a Christian band. Don't get me wrong. Vickers and band member Joel Piper wouldn't necessarily consider themselves Christians IN a band, either. They would probably be more comfortable identifying as Christ followers and Bible believing musicians who perform in a group together. They take their art and faith both seriously and it shows on Lifelong's first emotionally charged full- length release for Solid State Records, "Above the Waves."

I sat down for a lengthy talk with Trevor and we dove into some topics much deeper than I was prepared for when interviewing someone. That's not a bad thing. I'm just not used to an actor, artist, or musician being so open right off the bat. The interview was so full of great stuff that I had to split it into two parts.

Trevor talks about not only Lifelong, but his other bands - Confide and Underneath the Gun. He also opens up about his faith and why it's taken almost two years for the band to get their first full length album out through Solid State Records. Grab a snack and soda, folks, and get ready to be educated on what Lifelong and Trevor Vickers are all about. It's an enjoyable and insightful journey you'll be glad you took.

There's a few ways you can ingest the interview, so I'll just leave the links below. If you watch it on YouTube, it's split in two parts because of its length. The link to Part 2 is in the "Show More" section of Part 1. It's also available as a podcast for those who aren't into the video thing.

The New Mutants Comic Con at Home Teaser Trailer Promises a Horror Thriller

With every new peek at The New Mutants, I grow more and more excited to see what could possibly be the first true superhero horror film. I guess Venom could be in the category as well, but Josh Boone's take on the junior X-Men actually promotes itself as a "horror thriller." This new look includes a lot of fire and flames and creepy imagery. I really hope the wait is worth it whenever this thing actually comes out either in theaters or on streaming platforms. I haven't been this amped for an X-Men movie, well... ever.

In one week, the New Mutants are coming to Comic Con At Home! Tune in on Thursday, July 23 at 2pm PT and join Ira Madison III in a special virtual panel with the cast and director Josh Boone. Check out this special look now!

20th Century Studios in association with Marvel Entertainment presents The New Mutants, an original horror thriller set in an isolated hospital where a group of young mutants is being held for psychiatric monitoring. ‘Chucky’ Teaser: The ‘Child’s Play’ TV Series Arrives in 2021 on USA and SYFY

I'm  a big fan of all the Chucky movies. This teaser trailer definitely captures the dark and creepy vibe of the original film. The fact that it is set in a toy store is reminiscent of the remake we just got. It looks like we're in for a thrilling ride.

Don Mancini, the guy who created Chucky and who has had a hand in writing every entry in the franchise (save for the reboot), is now bringing everyone’s favorite killer doll to the small screen with Chucky.

O.G. Captain Marvel Goes on a Home Quest in Shazam: Lightning Strikes #1

The Original Captain Marvel gets his own DC Digital First title and issue 1 kicks things off on an emotional level. There's nothing worse than someone getting bullied and I've got a pretty good feeling from this sneak preview of the debut that Shazam ain't going to stand for it. Dan Jurgens does a great job of grabbing you by the feels in the first few pages. Combine that with Travis Moore and Nick Filardi's art talents and you're almost guaranteed a winner if you pick up Shazam: Lightning Strikes #1.

The Dark Knight Vs. The Darker Knight in Batman: The Adventures Continue #8

After taking in the first three digital pages of Batman: The Adventures Continue #8, I can tell you things start off heated from the get-go. Alan Burnett and Paul Dini don't mess around and inject enough action into the beginning of this issue than you get in an entire issue of other comics. The artwork perfectly captures the look and style of Batman: The Animated Series. If you're a fan of the show, there's no doubt in my mind you're going to love this.

After nearly killing Penguin, Azrael races to find the person who stole from the Church of St. Dumas. Batman, however, won't allow Azrael to use such aggressive methods. Who will be left standing when the Dark Knight faces the burning vengeance of St. Dumas?!

American Vampire by Snyder & Albuquerque returns this October with '70s setting and vibe

VERY exciting news as far as I'm concerned. American Vampire is one of my favorite tales of the Undead. It would make for a great Netflix or AMC series.

The long-simmering next volume of Scott Snyder and Rafael Albuquerque has a name and a release date: the 9-issue series is called American Vampire 1976, and it debuts on October 20. Check out four-page preview at Gamesradar.

Everyone is looking for a fun way to root out movies you might not have seen ever or recently. A way I keep things fresh is by looking at what films came out on this day in history. The list I've compiled here are some of the ones that stood out to me. If you're looking for a more extensive list, definitely check out Cinefania. First off, we have Christopher Nolan's Inception. Will Smith in I, Robot is up next. Lake Placid will make you want to stay out of the lakes this Summer. The Fly will have you creeping out with Vincent Price. All are available to rent or buy through Amazon Prime.

Watch: Project Power Trailer from Netflix

You never know what you're going to get with a Netflix movie these days. It could be awesome... or a complete dud. Project Power has the star power and looks visually incredible, so here's hoping the story can carry its weight.

On the streets of New Orleans, word begins to spread about a mysterious new pill that unlocks superpowers unique to each user. The catch: You don’t know what will happen until you take it. While some develop bulletproof skin, invisibility, and super strength, others exhibit a deadlier reaction. But when the pill escalates crime within the city to dangerous levels, a local cop (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) teams with a teenage dealer (Dominique Fishback) and a former soldier fueled by a secret vendetta (Jamie Foxx) to fight power with power and risk taking the pill in order to track down and stop the group responsible for creating it.
