I'm not a big singer / songwriter fan, but I know perfection when I hear it. "Music for Looking Animals" is a shining example, from the musicianship to the vocals. Simpson's quiet reflections will no doubt touch an emotional cord even in the coldest of human beings.
If I may say so, Mountain Song's "Music for Looking Animals" is Chris Simpson's "Pet Sounds" or "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band." I make the comparisons to those two groundbreaking albums because they're musical moments in time where the artists took several steps outside of their comfort zones and started incorporating more than just the standard guitar, bass, drums, and keyboards.
Mountain Time's "Music for Looking Animals" is Chris Simpson stepping out of the shadow of Mineral and The Gloria Record and staking his claim as an individual. You can't really call what he's doing here lo-fi because of all the arrangements and instruments he utilizes. What you can call it is the soundtrack to a pleasantly breathtaking and meditative journey through the ups and downs of your own personal mountain in life.
You can find Mountain Time's "Music for Looking Animals" anywhere you stream or buy music.
