Casting Has Begun for DC Universe's Swamp Thing Series
One of the several DC Comics properties being adapted for the DC Universe streaming channel is Swamp Thing, from Aquaman director James Wan, which was announced earlier this month. The project was given a script-to-series order, which means that should TPTB approve of it, it will be ordered straight to series for a 2019 release.
But it appears the series may already be getting closer to that stage as the show is currently casting the leading roles!
First up we have the female lead of the series which is going to be Abby Arcane, who made her first appearance in DC Comics in Swamp Thing #3 back in March 1973. The live-action version is a 30-something intelligent woman, who is a bit of a lone wolf. She works for the Center for Disease Control who ends up assigning her to investigate the “Houma Flu”, which happens to be in her hometown.
Now, moving on to the other lead of the show: Alex Holland, better known as the titular character. Alec is a 30-something wise man, with a hot temper and a big passion for his work as a researcher for the Sunderland Corporation.

Home Entertainment Review: Early Man
Aardman Studios continues to deliver some of the best animated features around including Shaun the Sheep, Chicken Run and The Pirates: Bands of Misfits. Now they are taking on the prehistoric age with their latest film Early Man featuring the voice talents of Eddie Redmayne, Tom Hiddleston, Maisie Williams and Timothy Spall with director Nick Park at the helm, but does it offer up the expected laughs or should it have stayed in the dark ages?
Early Man follows the dawn of time, when dinosaurs and wooly mammoths roamed the earth and tells the story of how one plucky caveman unites his tribe against a mighty enemy and saves the day! I love all things Aardman and to date they have never let me down and Early Man is no different. The film kicks off with some big laughs and lets you know that you are in for a fun ride. I have loved every trailer for this film, but there ended up being so much more to the story than I expected. All the characters in the film are hilarious and memorable creating yet another fun entry into the world of Aardman. Each of them bring their own something special to this fun feature that is part sports flick and part prehistoric silliness.
As expected Aardman has offered up some brilliant animation and designs. They have created an entire world that might be the most epic look and feel to date. Their constant attention to detail always amazes and here is no exception. There are some really cool vibrant visuals that play up as a character all its own, but when you add the awesome characters to the mix then you have a brilliant piece of animated fun. All of the voice work is spot on creating personas that you can't help but love and remember. They have made sure to make some memorable voices that matched up with the looks of the characters all around.
In addition to the great animation and laughs there is some great music that will keep the smile going right until the end of the credits. If you are a fan of the Aardman films or just fun animated features then this is a must see film that I hopes gets the love it deserves.
In addition to the film this release offers up numerous bonus features including featurettes that take you behind the pain staking work it takes to bring these kinds of films to life. Return to the age of dinosaurs with Early Man available now on Digital, Blu-ray and DVD from Lionsgate Home Entertainment.

Who are the Legion of Super-Heroes in Doomsday Clock's Future?
As this week's Doomsday Clock #5 is expected to continue the story of the Legion of Super-Heroes' Saturn Girl, fans are hoping to get more information about the future of the DC team.
There's no doubt the Legion exists in some form (somewhere), at least according to stories in the current-day DCU, which combines the history of DC's 2011 "New 52" reboot with several significant tweaks made since the 2016 "Rebirth" era began.

Home Entertainment Review: Annihilation
Director Alex Garland blew audiences away with Ex Machina so fans have been eager to see what he had coming up next. With his latest film Annihilation he is bringing along Natalie Portman who continues to take on diverse roles alongside a great cast including Jennifer Jason Leigh, Gina Rodriguez, Tessa Thompson, Tuva Novotny and Oscar Isaac, but does it have the ability to become something more than just another flick or will it fail to find its place in this world?
Annihilation follows a biologist's who puts her name forward for an expedition into an environmental disaster zone alongside an anthropologist, a psychologist, a surveyor and a linguist after her husband disappears, but does not find what she's expecting. This story is based on Jeff VanderMeer’s best-selling Southern Reach Trilogy, but my understanding isn’t a direct adaptation. I have never read the book so outside of the trailer headed into this film pretty fresh. The story is crafted in a different way than I had expected which is a good thing and so much more than I had thought it would be. There is a very slow burn to this film as opposed to the action that some parts of the trailer lets on, but for me it made it all the better. The story is complex without being overly complicated and has elements that not only make you think, but can leave some to your own opinions.
Portman is great here bringing a stoic yet emotional struggle to the role that matches to perfection with the character journey. She is not some sort of bada$! that just happens to be convenient to the story, but a person with skills that help her make the best of it. The rest of the cast all do a great job as well with Tessa Thompson coming off her bad ass character in Thor: Ragnarok to bring a more cerebral character that brings the simplistic yet important brains to the mission. One of my personal favorites was Gina Rodriguez who puts on the tough exterior and brings the muscle to the group without being forced to be manly. She carries herself differently than the rest, but still brings not only the common sense to the group, but also one of the better arcs of them all.
Jennifer Jason Leigh is great in her role as well bringing more mystery and obsession that is needed to round the team out. I was worried that the use of an all-female unit was going to feel forced just going with the current climate to make something acceptable, but I was so happy to see how it worked with the story and evolved into something all its own. The most underused of the cast would be that of Oscar Isaac which was a disappointment, but his moments are some of the more important for the bigger picture and needed to bring it full circle. The visuals are mesmerizing throughout bringing a dark beauty to it all. Seeing the ideals and directions used to convey this story makes the surrounds a character all its own. With every direction they go it offers something more to see from the small to the large. It is the prime example of the dangers of something beautiful making for a treat to the senses that will be easily remembered.
I personally loved the strange ending to it all, but can see how this is the part that may throw some people off. So many times they go the normal Hollywood ending to please the fans or spoon feed you the information, but here is takes its own journey and makes for a memorable unique ending that I think made the entire rest of the movie worth the slow journey. This is a movie that I think you will either love completely or struggle with connecting to it just in the way it is structured, but after letting it sit and stir within my mind I have to agree with a lot of the comments out there that it is a piece of science fiction brilliance that hope connects with a lot of people and gets the praise it deserves.
This release offers up not only the feature, but also bonus features including featurettes that take you behind bringing this science fiction feature to the big screen. Step into the Shimmer of Annihilation available now on Digital and then on Blu-ray and DVD May 29th from Paramount Home Entertainment.

Director Shane Black Talks The Predator
As the director of offbeat and darkly hilarious stories of violence and crime (Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, The Nice Guys) and massive superhero movies (Iron Man 3), [Shane] Black is uniquely suited to reinvent the Predator franchise.
And he revealed a great deal about his intentions in a lengthy conversation with the visitors to his [The Predator] set.
"I think that there’s a basic premise that has to be honored every time you make a Predator film and that’s in some way, whatever the plot turns out to be, it has to, at some level, represent a hunt. But, beyond that I think there’s infinite variability."

Zachary Quinto Says There WILL Be a Star Trek 4
[Stephen] Colbert [of The Late Show] asked [Zachary] Quinto if there is going to be a Star Trek 4 and is Quentin Tarantino going to direct it. The actor clarified things regarding the two Star Trek projects in development.
"I know more now than I knew a few weeks ago, which is there will be a fourth [Star Trek] movie, if we stay on the track we are on. I think there is going a movie before Quentin’s movie. So, there may be a movie after the next movie. So, we have a lot to look forward to."
Regarding the hiring of S.J. Clarkson to direct Star Trek 4, Quinto said:
"They just announced a woman will be directing the next one, which is really exciting. It is the first time in the feature universe. And it is actually a woman I know and have worked with before, named S.J. Clarkson and she is incredible and I am very excited."

Home Entertainment Review: Daphne & Velma
There are few cartoons that have had the legs as Scooby-Doo. They have offered up numerous animated series as well as two big budget live action features. Now they are taking a different approach to the franchise with their latest original movie Daphne & Velma starring Sarah Jeffery and Sarah Gilman, but does it offer anything fresh and new to the franchise or will it be a mystery not worth solving.
Daphne & Velma follows new transfer student, the bright & optimistic Daphne Blake who is excited to finally go to school with her online bestie, the whip-smart & analytical Velma Dinkley at Ridge Valley High, an innovative center of learning for some of the brightest minds in the country where state of the art robots and high-tech gadgets are common sights. But not everything is as innocent as it seems as mysterious disappearances begin to plague the top-performing students on campus. Once cheery and full of life, kids now appear in a “zombiefied” state - lifeless and shells of themselves. Can Daphne and Velma learn to work together and save the students or will they become the next victims? Get ready for thrills and laughs as we follow the first adventures of Mystery Inc.’s fierce female duo.
I have to admit that I am not a big Scooby-Doo fan so going into this movie I tried to keep an open mind as much as possible. That being said this movie is just all over the place and while it is obviously meant for a different demographic than me, I still think it failed to fully capture the essence of the characters. One of the big issues is when you make a prequel of sorts like this it makes it hard to buy into when everything is so modern in relation to the source material. Sure it’s cool to update it, but it just felt too futuristic than it needed to be for these characters. The girls did s fine job bringing Dphne and Velma to life and even looked the part but the approach to it all just felt like one of those Disney Channel movies and never really like a Scooby Doo project. That is likely the point as it was obviously designed to be a girl power approach and in that aspect I guess it works.
This is one of those unnecessary films that no one was asking for, but the age bracket it is for will likely still have some fun with it. There is so many things they could have done to make this a fun little mystery feature, but the safe route coupled with the kid bop era vibe makes it pretty forgettable as a whole. IF you have young Scooby fans or just young kids in general that like those Disney productions then give Daphne & Velma a try and grab your copy on Blu-ray and DVD available now from Warner Bros. Home Entertainment.
