"Oliver and Company" Blu-ray Review

Disney gives "Oliver and Company" a high-definition upgrade in celebration of its 25th Anniversary of release. I'm not entirely sure that revisiting Disney classics on Blu-ray is producing the results the Mouse House wants from me. Sometimes the movies you see as a child don't hold up so well when you experience them again as an adult. Read more

"Gallowwalkers" DVD

I can't help but think that the release of "Gallowwalkers" was somehow timed to star Wesley Snipes' release from jail after serving time for tax-dodging. Talk about a film that fully rests on the shoulders of Snipes. Production on the movie began in 2006 and had to come to a halt briefly while the troubled actor went to court. It then sat on the shelf in limbo until Lionsgate released it a few months after Snipes regained his freedom. Read more

“The Dark Knight Vol. 2" Graphic Novel Review

There've been many complaints from comic book fans over DC's New 52 reboot. It's been proven time and again nobody likes change. However, one thing I've noticed with the Bat-Family books is a newfound dedication to fleshing out the villains and making them more menacing and disturbing than ever before. "Batman: The Dark Knight Volume 2: Cycle of Violence" is a perfect example. Read more

"The Demented" DVD

Does the world really need another zombie movie? Walk into any store that sells DVDs and most people would scream "No!" I've said it before and I'll say it again. There must be three zombie movies coming out every week. The hard thing for viewers to do is try to pick which one they should devote an hour and a half of their time to. Thankfully, you have a guy like me who wastes way too many moments watching movies like Anchor Bay Entertainment's "The Demented" to keep you from doing the same. Read more

"Superboy: 3rd Season” DVD

Warner Archive gives fans of the Man of Steel a nice hunk of cheese with the release of "The Adventures of Superboy: The Complete Third Season." The 3-disc set features all 26 half hour episodes of this entertaining show. Executive produced by Alexander and Ilya Salkind, the series feels very much like an extension of "Superman III," "Superman IV: The Quest for Peace," and "Supergirl." Read more

“Twilight Zone: 4th Season” DVD

Some people never take old sayings to heart until it's too late. While in the midst of watching the fourth season of "The Twilight Zone," the proverb "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" came to mind. The perfect 30-minute format of the show was stretched to an hour to fill in the time another show left open. "Stretched" is exactly how this season of the classic television show feels.

Don't get me wrong. "The Twilight Zone's" fourth season is still quality television. The stories are entertaining and still have the great twists audiences expect from the show. The extended running time just leaves viewers with a sense that a bit of fluff had to be added to each episode. Rod Serling said it best when asked about the extended time slot. Read more

"The Fog" Blu-ray

I led a rather sheltered life as a child and teen. My parents were strict about the movies I could see and were completely against me taking in any type of supernatural horror films. I would go to my father's house during the summers and that's when I would catch up on all the great films I missed for the past year. One of my fondest memories is watching "The Fog" one night around dusk with my cousin. Read more

"Oblivion" Blu-ray

Universal Studios Home Entertainment brings "Oblivion" to Blu-ray and DVD for those who didn't get a chance to see it in theaters. Many people find Tom Cruise to be an acquired taste these days after his couch-jumping antics and Scientology beliefs became public knowledge. However, this beautiful sci-fi gem shouldn't be pushed away solely because he's the lead actor. Read more

“Flashpoint Paradox” Blu-ray

DC Comics definitely hits its stride with "Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox." Never have I been more impressed with an animated adaptation of a comic book story arc than I am with this spectacular straight-to-DVD movie. At the same time, I am not without complaints in regards to it. Read more

"Detention of the Dead" DVD

Do you remember all the typical garbage you had to deal with in high school? You had to wear the right clothes, hang out with the right crowd, and get all your homework done so you could pass. All those seem hard enough to handle. Now add to your laundry list of things to do "Escape from my fellow students who have turned into zombies." High School was bad enough before. Imagine having to attend "Detention of the Dead." Read more

“Batman Noir" Graphic Novel

"Batman Noir: Eduardo Risso: The Deluxe Edition" celebrates the work of the accomplished artist by stripping the illustrations down to their essential pencils and inks. The black and white hardcover collection contains four story arcs written by Brian Azzarello. The tales themselves perfectly match the tone of the drawings, bringing to mind crime thrillers of classic Hollywood like "The Maltese Falcon" and such others. Read more

“Batgirl/Robin: Year One” Graphic Novel

What better time for DC Comics to release "Batgirl/Robin: Year One" than around the same time they're publishing the Batman: Zero Year event. Everyone is excited to remind themselves of why they fell in love with these characters. The book is made up issues 1 through 4 of Robin: Year One and issues 1 through 9 of Batgirl: Year One.

"Bullet to the Head" DVD

I'd start this review off with a strong "Sylvester Stallone is back," but it's just not true. He's very much been in the limelight recently. The 67-year old actor won't be held down by his age. After a 3-year hiatus back in 2003, he returned to the ring by acting in and directing "Rocky Balboa." Not content to just re-visit one of his most well-known characters, Stallone also put the headband back on for a fourth helping of "First Blood" in "Rambo."

"Incredible Melting Man" Blu-ray

Scream Factory continues its reign as the kings of classic horror restorers with the release of "The Incredible Melting Man" on Blu-ray. Here's a movie most home entertainment companies would look at and giggle when presented with the opportunity to give it a proper high-definition transfer. Not Scream Factory. They're more than willing to pony up the cash to give cult followers of this 1977 schlock-fest what they want.
