Blu-ray Review: "Peter Pan: Diamond Edition"

Disney's "Peter Pan" is finally up for the high-definition treatment. One by one each of their classic movies are either being re-released in 3D before hitting Blu-ray or just going straight there. The beloved 1953 animated adaptation of J.M. Barrie's book was the last of Disney's films to be distributed through RKO Pictures. This fact gives it even more historical significance for cinema buffs. It's easily one of my favorite movies from the Mouse House because of its quick pace and borderline dark humor.

“Animal Man Volume 2: Animal Vs. Man” Graphic Novel Review

As much as I enjoyed the first graphic novel, I had no intentions of picking up "Animal Man Volume 2: Animal Vs. Man." That is until I saw the cover which featured the hero battling the Rot side-by-side with one of my favorite DC characters, Swamp Thing. I immediately knew I had to read it at that point. I'm so glad I did now.

DVD Review: "Ghoul"

As I read the synopsis for "Ghoul," my expectations for a great film that would make me feel nostalgic about my childhood love for monster and action movies began to build up. High expectations aren't always a good thing when going into a film. Unfortunately, that was the case here. I wanted to like it, but something got lost along the way.

Blu-ray Review: "The Possession"

I think I've seen it all now. Never in a million years did I anticipate it was possible to make a movie about demon possession and have it completely devoid of the utterance of the name of Jesus Christ or the symbolism of the cross. "The Possession" has accomplished both these tasks in the space of one film.

Blu-Ray Review: "Deadly Blessing"

I don't know how Shout! Factory chooses the classic forgotten gems of the horror genre they re-issue and give the Blu-ray treatment, but they are doing a great job. They've given fright fans high-definition access to cult favorites like "The Island," "Death Valley," "They Live," and "Halloween III: Season of the Witch." Now they've unleashed Wes Craven's "Deadly Blessing" on us.

“Batwoman Volume 2: To Drown the World” Graphic Novel Review

"Batwoman Volume 2: To Drown the World" collects issues 6 through 11 of the monthly comic book series. Most story-arcs in this medium last three to four issues, but the tale started in issues 1 through 5 is so alluring and complex it couldn't be told that quickly. As a matter of fact, we're left hanging in enthusiastic anticipation at the end of Volume 2 as well.

"Wonder Woman Volume 2: Guts" Graphic Novel Review

No matter what anyone says, DC Comics is flourishing creatively after relaunching their titles for the New 52 event. They came up against a lot of opposition at first, but many of the monthly books received a breath of fresh air they all needed. I'm not saying there was anything horribly wrong with where the storylines were headed before. It's just that getting a new perspective sometimes leads to bigger and better things. "Wonder Woman Volume 2: Guts" is a shining example of this concept.

Blu-ray Review: "Love Me"

There's always room for another "psycho-guy goes nuts over uninterested ex-girlfriend" thriller. Audiences love these types of "who-dun-it" films. Anchor Bay Films isn't ashamed to participate in putting the next one out either. Their newest release in the genre, "Love Me," will air on the Lifetime Movie Network over and over again in a few months guaranteeing them a fat wad of cash for rights.

"Green Lantern Volume 2: The Revenge of Black Hand" Graphic Novel Review

I don't know if Geoff Johns is trying to appeal to horror fans with "Green Lantern Volume 2: The Revenge of Black Hand," but he's doing a great job infusing a bit of the genre into the latest storyline. How can you go wrong mixing Green Lanterns, zombies, and shape shifting creatures that suck the life out of whatever living thing they touch? As far as I'm concerned, you can't!

Movie Review: "The Last Stand"

Arnold is back just like he's always claimed! No matter what you think of him as a politician or family man, one thing is for sure. Nobody can kick as much booty as Arnold Schwarzenegger. The man has fought and won against robots, drug dealers, terrorists, giant serpents, politicians, and the Devil. He's battled everyone and everything in his forty plus year career in films and TV. What do you do for an encore after taking a break to be the governor of California? You jump back in the ring and do it all over again! That's exactly what Schwarzenegger does in "The Last Stand."

Interview with Marlon Wayans for "A Haunted House"

I've been a big fan of the Wayans family ever since I first saw "In Living Color" when it premiered back in 1990. Their brand of humor appeals to me mainly because nothing is sacred with them. They are equal opportunity offenders. They'll throw ANYONE under the bus, whether they be black, white, Chinese, Hispanic, male, female, gay, or straight.

Schwarzenegger and Knoxville Attend Dallas Red Carpet Premiere of "The Last Stand"

You might think eight years in a political office would permanently soften a man who is in his 60s. Arnold Schwarzenegger is living proof that no matter how old you are, you can always take your place back as the king of the action film genre. After small but impacting roles in both of "The Expendables" films, the one-time Mr. Universe-turned-actor-turned-governor is back in the lead for "The Last Stand."

Blu-ray Review: "House at the End of the Street"

Producers of "House at the End of the Street" couldn't buy better advertising for their low-budget thriller. First, the movie is given a boost by the success of "The Hunger Games" and the spotlight it shined on Jennifer Lawrence. Secondly, Lawrence wins a Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical a mere five days after the movie's release on Blu-ray and DVD. This further guarantees that more people who weren't familiar with the star now are and will likely give any project she's in a chance.

"Batman: Eye of the Beholder" Graphic Novel Review

"Batman: Eye of the Beholder" gives graphic novel collectors the last few issues of the Dark Knight's self-titled series before the New 52 reboot. I expected it to have issues #704 through #713, but numbers 708, 709, and 713 are missing. It's really not surprising, seeing how those issues are made up of two one-shot stories and the wrap-up of a crossover story. Two stories written by Tony S. Daniel wind the original monthly down in style after 73 years of continuity.

Blu-ray Review: "Frankenweenie"

A love / hate relationship has always existed between Tim Burton and critics. Ever since "Pee-Wee's Big Adventure" hit screens in 1985, the renowned director / producer / writer is constantly put under a microscope over every project he's attached to. He's been praised for triumphs like "The Nightmare Before Christmas" and ridiculed for heavily panned for movies such as the "Planet of the Apes" remake. "Frankenweenie" should be added to his list of successes.

Blu-ray Review: "Dredd"

Let's get one thing out of the way up front. The only thing 2012's "Dredd" and 1995's "Judge Dredd" have in common is a name. For those who have somehow escaped seeing a trailer for the new take on the futuristic lawman, let me just say there's no comparison between the two. Sylvester Stallone's adaptation of the character boasted stylish clothing, props, and special effects. Karl Urban's has style, but it's in the form of an interesting combination of artsy cinematography and violent grit.

Reflecting on "Before Watchmen's" End of 2012 Issues

December marked six months since the beginning of DC Comics' "Before Watchmen" event. No one can deny the publishing powerhouse went above and beyond to give readers quality stories written and illustrated by the biggest talents in the comic book industry. There's been some ups and down in the different titles found in the whole series. However, for the most part, the past half year provided enjoyment for anyone who didn't allow Alan Moore to convince them to turn a blind eye to the engrossing prequels.

Blu-ray Review: "Finding Nemo"

Disney continues their trend of re-releasing hit films in 3D and then giving them the Blu-ray treatment with "Finding Nemo." The Academy Award-winning movie is a new classic for both the Mouse House and Pixar and continues to charm children of all ages. This shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone who follows the success of Pixar, who very rarely has a miss among its hits.

Blu-ray Review: "The Odd Life of Timothy Green"

I remember the first time I saw a trailer for "The Odd Life of Timothy Green." My eyes rolled so many times I think I actually lost balance. However, at my wife's request we sat down and watched it on Blu-ray. I held on to the hope that this would be one of those films I ended up enjoying when the credits rolled at the end. It wasn't nearly as painful as I thought it would be. The movie still felt like it was missing something in the end, though.
