“Batman and Robin Volume 1: Born to Kill” Graphic Novel Review
The New 52 saw the return of Bruce Wayne to the cape and cowl in the "Batman and Robin" monthly series. What could have easily become another title with no reason for existence became an exploration in father and son relationships. In the midst of all the crime-fighting, we explore the dynamics of Bruce Wayne / Batman and Damian Wayne / Robin's complex family bonds (or lack thereof.)

"Static Shock Volume 1: Supercharged" Graphic Novel Review
How come Static Shock never gets any love or support from the comic book community? Ever since the character's first comic book series and an impressive animated television show, this spunky teen superhero hasn't had much luck in the publishing world. He's made appearances in different titles throughout the DC Universe, but remains underused.

Blu-ray Review: "Outland"
The late 1970s and early 1980s were a groundbreaking period for science fiction films. It got kicked off by "Star Wars," which fueled the imaginations of many directors of the time. It also caused studios to trip over each other in their search for the next big space saga. Some of those films were fun like "Battle Beyond the Stars." Others were serious works of art like "Alien," "The Black Hole," and Peter Hyams' "Outland."

Before Watchmen: Comedian Issue #2 Comic Book Review
Issue #2 of Before Watchmen: Comedian keeps the ball rolling for the prequel series. It seems much of the controversy surrounding the books has been put to bed. Either comic enthusiasts came to grips with the fact they're going to continue to happen no matter what is said or readers gave them a chance and liked the experience. Most of the people I've talked to are enjoying all the titles in the series.

"Justice" Graphic Novel Review
I'm a huge fan of Batman and keep up with his monthly adventures in both Detective Comics and the self-titled book. Unfortunately, a limited budget keeps me from picking up every Bat-related and Justice League title released as I would like to, but I do my very best to catch up when I can. One book I recently caught up with thanks to a new trade paperback release is "Justice."

Before Watchmen: Silk Spectre Issue #2 Comic Book Review
I can only imagine how hard it was for DC to get a group of the most celebrated writers and artists in the comic book industry and organize an event as big and controversial as "Before Watchmen." The individuals involved in the creative process are already under a powerful microscope of scrutiny and controversy. Isn't the responsibility of producing one of these important titles enough to stress someone out? Darwyn Cooke bravely stepped up and shouldered the responsibility of heading up two books in the series. The writer continues proving he was the right choice for the job with Silk Spectre Issue #2.

KISS Issues #1 and #2 Comic Book Review
The rock band KISS is no stranger to the comic book world. Ever since their debut appearance in 1977's issue #12 of Marvel's Howard the Duck monthly series, the Starchild, the Demon, the Spaceman, and the Catman have become not only rock stars but superheroes. The foursome has appeared in two magazine-format comics bookending their television movie exploits in "KISS Meets the Phantom of the Park." Since then, they've appeared in three different series published through Image Comics, Dark Horse Comics, and Platinum Studios. Let's not forget their latest appearance in Archie Comics.

Author Paul Asay Discusses the Dark Knight and Religion in "God on the Streets of Gotham"
Author Paul Asay is the editor of the website Plugged In, which uses movie, video, TV, music, and game reviews as a means to compare and contrast pop culture and Christianity. He's also an award-winning journalist who's been published by the Colorado Springs Gazette, the Washington Post, Christianity Today, and other outlets. His latest work is "God on the Streets of Gotham" in which he discusses how the world of Batman intersects with the Bible and Christianity. I had the opportunity to interview Asay about the book.

"God on the Streets of Gotham" Book Review
When most people think about Christian books that compare and contrast pop culture figures or films with the Bible, the idea makes them sneer and say to themselves, "Here they go again. Those religious fanatics have to find God somewhere in everything to justify watching or listening to it." That could be true. However, what's wrong with examining the parallels between two pieces of literature that seem drastically different from each other?

Movie Review: "The Dark Knight Rises"
I can finally say my day has come. No longer do I have to sift through supposed story leaks and speculate what could happen in Christopher Nolan's last chapter in his Batman trilogy. American Vampire: Lord of Nightmares Issue #1 Comic Book Review
One comic book I always get excited about when it comes in the mail is Scott Snyder's American Vampire. I don't get to follow it on a monthly basis the way I wish I had time to, but I devour every random issue and graphic novel collection Vertigo Comics sends to me to review. The fact that I get a good dose of Snyder's wonderfully complex storytelling with the Batman monthly series serves as a constant reminder of what I'm missing. It keeps me anticipating where he's going to take his vampire epic next. Vertigo just launched a new miniseries entitled American Vampire: Lord of Nightmares and it's going to add another $2.99 dent to your wallet until it concludes.

DVD Review: "The Collapsed"
Some directors just have it. They take what shouldn't work and breathe new life into it. That's exactly what writer / director Justin McConnell did with his post-apocalyptic thriller "The Collapsed." When I opened up the envelope and saw it was another grim look at our destroyed Earth, I put up a mental wall and said to myself, "Another one of these movies?"

Blu-ray Review: "Home on the Range"
The early 2000s weren't very kind to Disney's animated films. Although I liked many of the movies they released at the time, they didn't seem to resonate with audiences and gain that "instant" classic badge of honor that many of the studios works like "Aladdin" and "The Lion King" earned in the 1990s. Disney decided it was time to release a couple of those movies from the 2000s on Blu-ray and "Home on the Range" is one of them.

DVD Review: "American Warships"
Piggybacking off the domestic box office disaster "Battleship" as much as they can, The Asylum released their low-budget knock-off entitled "American Warships." Leave it to these mockbuster makers to swoop in on the dead carcass and pick off all the flesh left on the bone after the brutal slaying it suffered. The original title of the film was "American Battleship" until Universal Pictures intervened demanding a name-change among other things. The Asylum did what they had to do to get the finished product released and told the studio they "appreciate the publicity."

Before Watchmen: Ozymandias Comic Book Review
Of all the different characters in the "Watchmen" universe, Adrian Alexander Veidt interested me the least. I put off reading Before Watchmen: Ozymandias Issue #1 for that very reason. As I've admitted several hundreds of times in the past about other things, I was wrong to do so. What I found inside the glossy cover of this first chapter in the six-part series was the life of this eccentric and troubled "superhero" fleshed out in both words and illustrations.

One thing I can say for Vertigo Comics is they never fail to surprise me with their diverse books. That's how I felt while reading their latest offering, "Get Jiro!"

KISS is Back with Energetic New Single "Hell or Hallelujah"
It would be ridiculous to say KISS is back again, since the band really hasn't stopped performing for any long period of time after they released their last studio album, 2009's "Sonic Boom." This time the hottest band in the world left fans anticipating new music for three years versus the 11 they made them wait after 1998's "Psycho Circus." The new music comes in the form of a single entitled "Hell or Hallelujah" from the upcoming album "Monster," which hits stores on October 16, 2012 in North America.

Blu-ray Review: "Treasure Planet: 10th Anniversary Edition"
Leave it to Disney to come up with a way to update Robert Louis Stevenson's classic tale "Treasure Island" into a science fiction epic. The studio that brought you the unforgettable live-action film version returned to the source material once again with the idea of taking the adventure into deep space and to other worlds. Unfortunately, moviegoers weren't interested in "Treasure Planet" when it came out in 2002. The film underperformed at the box office but was still nominated for a 2002 Academy Award in the category of Best Animated Feature.

DVD Review: "Some Guy Who Kills People"
Coming up with an original concept for a slasher film these days is an impossibility. So what can a budding filmmaker with an itch for violent deaths and twist endings do to make his project stand out from the rest of the "Scream" clones? Director Jack Perez decided to meld his gore-fest with a tween coming-of-age story. The result is a rather unique indie-flavored little film entitled "Some Guy Who Kills People."
